Healthier Cocktail Drinks Recipes

Some people like to serve cocktail drinks to family and friends during the Christmas holidays. If you’re planning to serve cocktails, you can easily buy and serve something premade, but you know that pre-made drinks tend to be very high in sugars. If you want a healthier option, you could take a look at these healthier versions of these favorite Christmas cocktails.

These cocktails still contain alcohol, so remember to drink moderately. As per the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, the limit is 1 drink per day for women and 2 drinks per day for men. Each size of alcoholic drink below count as 1 drink. Use it as a guide for drinking.

How to Make a Healthier Sangria

making healthy sangria

Sangria is a favorite for all occasions and get togethers. Unfortunately, the sugar content can be
a little bit too much. So we have versions of sangria that particularly have less sugar and better for you. These are great whether you want to go low on sugar and calories, or you just want to offer a healthier version at your next holiday party.

Selecting Your Alcohol

When a lot of people think about sangria, they are likely to think about a cabernet or another reddish wine for making their fruity drink, but sangria can be made with nearly any alcohol. A good way to make sure that you’re making a healthier sangria is to use an alcohol that doesn't have a lot of added sugar to it. This guarantees the sweetness is coming from the fruit that you add, and the natural sweetness of the alcohol. You can also use vodka, sparkling wine, and soda water to control the flavor and alcohol content.

Choosing the Fruit

Choose fruit that is fresh and organic. This will make sure you have the tastiest, most nutritious fruit to go in your drink. The more the sweetness comes from the fruit, the better off your sangria will be. Certain fruits will pair better with specific wines, but it should be easy to find which ones go with each other. Once you find a good pairing, you can impress your guests with your healthy sangria.
