Easy Smoothie Prep Ideas

Everyone wants to eat more nutritious and healthy meals. The problem is, if you want to eat healthy, you would need to exert some effort and spend some time preparing. You can't just buy ready-to-eat meals at a convenience store or a drive-through fast food chain. You have to go to a market and buy fresh ingredients, prepare them and cook something healthy. Is there a fast and easy way to make eating healthy? When you're in a hurry or tired to cook, you can quickly make a healthy smoothie instead.

Here's what you should do to quickly prepare a smoothie ~

TIP #1

Use a personal blender that is easy and fast to wash. Instead of using your large kitchen blender, use a personal blender. It gives the added advantage of blending right in the cup that you're drinking out of. Just read through reviews if you still have to purchase a personal blender. Amazon is great for that. Or talk to friends who use a personal blenders.

You can alternatively get a blender bottle. You can prepare the smoothie the night before and place the blender bottle in the fridge. In the morning, just shake and drink up. It is also very portable and can be brought along to your work office.

TIP #2

Buy some nutritious smoothie ingredients good for at least one week. Have some natural produce like fruits (banana, apple, strawberries, avocado, etc) and vegetables (cucumber, carrots, etc). These can be frozen and added directly into your smoothies.

Stock up also on other healthy smoothie ingredients such as coconut water, plain yogurt, flax seed, chia seeds, oats, etc to blend things up and have a bigger nutritional boost. If you want a more filling smoothie, you need protein powder, peanut butter or kefir.

TIP# 3

Prep your smoothie ingredients ahead of time. Your biggest time saver and the quickest way to make smoothies conveniently is by prepping the ingredients ahead of time. If you’ve been making smoothies, you’ll know that the bulk of the job is preparing fruits and vegetables. You could make smoothies easier on busy workday mornings if you already have perfectly portioned bags of fruit and veggies ready to go into the blender.

So after buying the smoothie ingredients you need for a week, you can already prep the smoothie ingredients. That means cleaning, cutting, and measuring out the ingredients and putting them in a “ready-to-use” form. For this you would need some packing materials like freezer bags or containers. You can also use ice cube containers to freeze juice, yogurt or coconut water. This will allow you to just throw into the blender the number of frozen yogurt or coconut water cubes you need.

For example, put all the fruits you will be needing for the smoothie into a freezer bag. Label it, and keep the bag in the fridge or freezer until you're ready to use them. Pour into your blender together with a cup or cube of yogurt or some fresh greens and water. If you do this, you can prepare a healthy smoothie for breakfast in just 2 minutes.

Preparing ingredients in advance makes the smoothie prepping as easy as ordering a take-out or having a bowl of cereal. Try it and do not be scared to use “convenience produce” like pre-cut fresh or frozen fruit and washed greens. If they get you eating healthier, it’s well worth it.

TIP# 4

Use Tinned Fruits. Some fruits and vegetables take more time and effort to prepare. One example are peaches, which you might like to remove the skin and the stone. It would be a hassle to do that when you’re in a hurry in the morning.

The solution is to use tinned peaches. These are soft and peeled and stoned. All you have to do is drop them into your blender and blend! If you choose to buy this, avoid tins that have a lot of added sugar or syrup. You could choose to drain off  the juice if you don't want to alter the flavor of your smoothie.

TIP# 5

Buy in bulk. Some produce can become expensive especially if they're off season. So, you might want to buy in bulk when they're in season, prep and freeze them. You could also sun dry fruits instead of freezing them if you want to. Sun dried fruits actually taste sweeter and will last longer.
